On December 14, Buick officially confirmed the introduction of their latest venture in crossovers: the 2013 Encore.  The teaser image (shown above) of the new 2013 Buick Encore reveals a waterfall-style grille with xenon headlamps and sculpted hood.

Overall, the new Encore is a versatile Buick that seats five people and features a contemporary styling.  The signature QuietTuning technology from Buick is included, which is a sound insulation feature that closes the driver off from the feel and sound of a bumpy road.  A host of features, the list of which hasn’t really been outlined, will also be included.  From the rumors and typical Buick style, it will feature a luxury-level stereo and leather seating.

The new Buick Encore will also feature the fuel-assistant eAssist “light electrification technology.”  It’s a new hybrid system that has been exclusively designed by Buick.  Simply composed of an energy storage device (i.e., battery) and a starter motor that acts as a generator, the Buick eAssist provides some electrical assist to the engine during operation to save on fuel efficiency.  It’s a similar hybrid system close to the Chevrolet Volt.

Editor-in-chief of Car and Driver, Eddie Alterman, said that the cars on the 2012 10Best list represent the best overall vehicles out there on the market today.  The finalists for the 10Best list were chosen from sixty-eight vehicles.  The Cadillac CTS-V was found to consistently perform the best, offer a great value and is simply fun to drive, according to the editor.  The full 2012 10Best list from Car and Driver will be published in the upcoming January issue–which has already hit newsstands.

The Cadillac CTS-V series cars for 2012 have racing inspired features such as the Brembo brakes and the Recaro seating.  That’s among the numerous luxury and power features, which we’ve named already.

 Some think it’s rather scary.  And we’re not contradicting that thought just yet.  But with the advance in GPS, cameras, and sensors, the idea is workable.  Alan Taub recently made a speech at the Transport Systems World Congress in Florida, where he made it clear that GMC’s primary goal was in fact to focus on safety.  Self-driving cars, he said, can eliminate crashes entirely from even happening since the car will be aware of situations before the driver is. 

The 2012 GMC Terrain crossover is already fitted with innovation systems that come very close to a self-driving car.  It comes equipped with a blindspot alert system, a lane departure warning feature, and even an entire crash avoidance system with the use of a front mounted camera.  More advanced systems are currently being produced in the GMC factory, such as a vehicle-to-vehicle infrastructure communication setup, where sensors basically gather information from what is going on in the road and will warn the driver of any harmful conditions.

Statistics are showing that Cadillac buyers purchase their vehicle mainly because of the infotainment system it features.  And the infotainment system that the CUE will deliver is something that drivers will really look forward to.  The director of Cadillac interior design, Dave Lyon, is calling it a merge between art and science that is nothing short of beautiful.

The CUE is basically a new-generation Linux based entertainment system that takes a direct cue from advanced smartphones and browsers.  It’s even modeled after some of the most popular phone apps.  Just like other similar infotainment centers, the CUE will use a large 8” touchscreen that will be mounted in the center of the dashboard.  When a command is selected, the hepatic feedback is a pulse.  The screen is claimed to be twice as bright as Apple’s iPad.  You don’t even have to touch it to activate it: as your fingers get close, the system senses what you’re going to do and starts prompting the right icons.  The Web browser is fully functional and can handle HTML5 or Javascript.

Although announced on Wednesday, the CUE itself won’t debut until early 2012, in the Cadillac ATS and XTS luxury sedans.  It will also be featured in the Cadillac SRX luxury crossover.  The entire system was debuted separately at the San Diego CTIA telecommunications show.  As we’re writing, carriers are working now to add connectivity from many devices to the CUE.

The camouflaged vehicle in the picture is in fact the 2013 Cadillac ATS.  CarPix was able to get a whole gallery full of these shots.  The car definitely has the look of a well made Cadillac, and it appears to get across a whole new image for a Cadillac sedan.  Instead of the big, bulky and wide form that a classic Cadillac sedan usually takes on, this has the look of an Infiniti or Lexus sedan.  Perhaps even a BMW 3-series, which is the competitor Cadillac is directly taking on with their new ATS.

General Motors has been out and about with their camo-clad ATS quite a few times, hence the many spy shots taken by CarPix.  They are certainly doing a lot of testing and evaluating to make sure the brand new 2013 ATS model is up to par.  The shape-masking of the car is very effective and we don’t know anything specific regarding the features the 2013 ATS might come with.

The motivation behind the brand new ATS model is a volume projection on the part of General Motors.  And the new 2013 ATS is slated to hit dealership lots in late 2012.  What will the ATS sedan pack under its hood?  We’ll have to find out!

The brand new 2012 Buick Regal GS will be piloted over Sunday by lead engineer Bill Rietow.  He’ll be joined by the Regal’s drive quality powertrain engineer, John Townsend, and together they’ll navigate Nevada’s State Highway 318 during the SSCC road rally.  As Team Buick, they’ll be in the 120 mph class with an ability of 140 mph.  The SSCC covers no less than 90 miles of Nevada’s highway, and the vehicles who will be in the challenge are classed according to their mph speed.  The cars will range from 90-200 mph, and the placement of the class will be determined by the safety features as well as the experience of the drivers.

Lead engineer Bill Rietow is saying that the new Buick Regal GS is one of the most performance-oriented, speedy Regal by Buick.  Classed as sport sedan, the Regal GS will definitely get a trial run during the 2011 SSCC.  Bill is also a racer and is looking forward to the excitement of the competition.  He’s also glad to get a chance to gain insight for Buick on how well their vehicle performance is.  The new Regal GS comes with a turbocharged ECOTEC 2.0-liter, and features 270 horsepower and 295 ft-lbs of torque.

Edmunds’ InsideLine.com experts recently experienced a test drive of the 2012 Buick Regal GS.  The fuel economy was reported at 27 mpg on the highway, and 19 in the city.  The experts named the new Regal as possibly the best-driving Buick they’ve seen in decades.  They’ve noted that the pumped up, 2.0 L turbocharged engine is a far cry from what was furnished in past Buicks.  You can choose a 6-speed manual or automatic without any difference in the base $35,310 cost.  A Buick Interactive Drive Control damper system and HiPer Strut front suspension is also included in the 2012 Buick Regal GS.  The leather wrapped steering wheel and GS badges on the floor adds elegance to the interior.

Dave Proefke’s team is saying that their new car key will do the thinking for you and make your day that much easier.  It’ll predict the action you’re about to do, and it will do that action for you.  The key the GM team is putting together doesn’t need a keyhole.  It’s entirely wireless, and it sends out a constant, unbroken stream of steady data to the vehicle (currently the Buick LaCrosse).  This data helps the key to “know” where the car is located so that the key can perform functions based on predictions of the owner’s behavior.

Sound a bit unbelievable?  Technology these days is progressing to unforeseen new levels, and car door keys are aiming to reach a new height.  The LaCrosse is currently being tested for the key, and it can now be equipped with the push-button start that features smart key technology.  It’s a highly sophisticated system that actually removes the mechanical parts that make a car more susceptible to getting stolen.  The team is promising higher amounts of safety with the smart key that only predicts the actions of its owner.  Plus, you won’t be able to lock yourself out of the car anymore; it knows when it’s left in the vehicle, and won’t allow you to lock the doors unless you take it out first.  How’s that for technology!
